A mass quantity of twitter followers does not equate long term success or short term for that matter. It simply Intel that you have a shit load of people, (most of which you will never see) viewing your 140 character rants and one liners. With the rise in viral anomalies that have led to relatively short term success, many up 'n' coming entertainers have become focused on the viral aspect of marketing; thus leading them to neglect the real world marketing strategies. In laments terms, you've got a trillion untalented mothafuckers running around with web cams in hopes that some exec somewhere will run across there heavily trafficked site or page.
No matter how far entertainment leans in the direction of technology, nothing will leave an impression, quite like a live freestyle or a handshake and embrace backstage. We as entertainers have slowly but surely forgotten the power that real life interaction can hold. Nothing speaks louder about an artist than the artist himself. This is not to say that the viral movement should be neglected, this is just saying that it should not supersede everything else. To become popular in entertainment is a lot like becoming The President....you have to view your grind as a campaign and no city can be neglected, because your competition will most definitely take advantage of any detail you overlook.
